Deported from B'luru, 31 Bangladeshi nationals reach Bengal holding centre for final procedures

Business To Business, Bengaluru, 02 September 2026:   As many as 31 Bangladeshi nationals who were detained from different parts of Bengaluru as part of an operation against suspected illegal immigrants were sent to West Bengal and handed over to the authorities in Malda on Wednesday morning for further deportation procedures, police said.
 
The Bangladeshi nationals were sent from Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) Bengaluru to Malda in West Bengal earlier as part of the deportation process.
 
The group was detained from the jurisdictions of 10 different police stations across Bengaluru during a citywide operation against suspected illegal immigrants.
 
The police stated, "The group reached Malda on Wednesday morning and was handed over to the authorities at the Karma Tirtha Holding Centre for further procedures related to their deportation."
 
The police said the necessary formalities would be completed in coordination with the West Bengal authorities before the nationals are deported to Bangladesh.
 
Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh appealed to citizens to share information about suspected illegal immigrants with the police.
 
He also cautioned people against taking the law into their own hands and urged citizens to inform the authorities if they have information about suspected illegal immigrants.
 
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Electronic City) M. Narayana has said the 31 Bangladeshi nationals were escorted by 20 police personnel during their journey to West Bengal.
 
Karnataka state authorities are currently enforcing a major statewide crackdown on undocumented foreign nationals, primarily focusing on suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants under an initiative named 'Operation Mukta'.
 
In late August, Mangaluru City Police detained 21 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who were discovered working at local construction sites. Because the dedicated foreigner detention centre in Bengaluru was at capacity, these individuals were placed in a local safe house before being escorted to the BSF holding centre in Malda, West Bengal.
