Human rights body raises concern over eviction of Christians by land mafia in Pak's Punjab

Business Aajkal, LAHORE, 14 May 2025: On Wednesday, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) issued a report highlighting the plight of Christian farmers in Punjab, who are being forcibly evicted from their lands by local land mafias. According to the HRCP, the provincial government appears to be a silent observer of these violations.
The HRCP's fact-finding investigation was initiated following a complaint from Pastor Derek Abad of the Christian community. The investigation revealed that Christian farmers in Kot Addu, approximately 400 kilometers from Lahore, have had their farmland occupied unlawfully.
The commission expressed concern over an alarming increase in land seizures targeting Christian farmers and criticized the persistent failure of the state to enforce court rulings meant to protect these vulnerable communities.
