Imran Khan's party criticises blanket ban on meetings with jailed ex-PM

Business To Business, Islamabad, 13th June, 2026:   The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday criticized what it described as a continuing blanket ban on meetings with jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, while his sister Aleema Khan expressed concern about his wellbeing and said the family feared he may have been poisoned.
PTI leaders said Khan has effectively been cut off from regular contact with family members and party associates. According to the party, it has been more than six months since he was last allowed to meet family members, with the last such meeting reportedly taking place in December 2025. PTI has repeatedly argued that restrictions on visits violate court directives and Khan's legal rights.
Khan, 73, has been held in Adiala Jail since August 2023 and faces multiple legal cases that were initiated after his removal from office in April 2022. Khan and his party maintain that the cases are politically motivated, an allegation denied by Pakistan's authorities.
Aleema Khan recently told reporters that the family was worried about Khan's prison conditions and feared he could have been poisoned. She alleged that he was being kept in isolation under conditions she described as unprecedented for a political leader. However, she did not publicly provide evidence to support the poisoning claim.
Concerns about Khan's health have surfaced repeatedly over the past year. PTI has raised alarms about his medical condition, prolonged isolation, and access to doctors.
At the same time, family members who were allowed rare visits in late 2025 reported that he appeared physically healthy, though they said he was experiencing psychological strain due to isolation and restrictions on communication.
The treatment of Imran Khan remains one of the most contentious issues in Pakistani politics. PTI supporters continue to demand regular access for family members, lawyers, and physicians, while the government and prison authorities have maintained that detention-related decisions are made according to legal and security requirements.
The dispute over Khan's access to visitors and his health is likely to remain a major political issue as tensions persist between PTI and the government of Shehbaz Sharif.
