India and Slovakia elevate ties to comprehensive partnership, sign 11 pacts
Business To Business, New Delhi, 15th June, 2026: India and Slovakia on Monday elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership, marking a significant step in bilateral ties following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
The two sides signed 11 agreements aimed at expanding cooperation across a variety of sectors, including:
- Migration and mobility
- Digital technology
- Defence and security
- Economic and trade cooperation
- Other areas of mutual interest
A key outcome of the discussions was the agreement to support the
earliest possible conclusion and implementation of the
India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Both leaders expressed the view that the pact could substantially boost trade, investment, and broader economic engagement between India and European partners.
Prime Minister Modi is visiting
Bratislava as part of his week-long tour of Europe. The trip is historic because it marks the
first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since the country became independent in 1993.
The elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Partnership reflects growing cooperation between the two countries in areas such as:
- Advanced manufacturing
- Defence collaboration
- Information technology and digital innovation
- Skilled workforce mobility
- Education and research
- Trade and investment
The move is expected to provide a stronger institutional framework for expanding bilateral engagement and deepen India's outreach in
Central Europe, while offering Slovakia greater opportunities for cooperation with one of the world's fastest-growing major economies.
