Business To Business, Rome, 20th May, 2026: India and Italy on Wednesday elevated their relationship to a Special Strategic Partnership as Narendra Modi and Giorgia Meloni held extensive talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties amid rising geopolitical uncertainty.
The two sides also reaffirmed their shared goal of expanding bilateral trade to 20 billion euros by 2029.
During the talks, Modi and Meloni discussed cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, technology, energy, defence and connectivity.
The leaders also expressed “deep concern” over the situation in West Asia and its wider global implications, stressing the importance of de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy to ensure lasting peace.
They further called for freedom of navigation and the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy supplies and international trade.
