Business To Business, Singapore, 28th May, 2026: A report released by the International Institute for Strategic Studies ahead of an international defence dialogue in Singapore has assessed that India’s conventional-threat perception in the Asia-Pacific region will continue to be primarily shaped by Pakistan and China.
According to the report, any future major conventional conflict involving India is likely to remain localised in scope. It also noted that India’s past “surgical strikes” have so far been conducted only in the context of operations against Pakistan.
The assessment further highlights that India is continuing to modernise and prepare its Army for large-scale conventional combat operations, driven by long-standing territorial disputes with both nuclear-armed neighbours.
The findings are part of the IISS Asia-Pacific Regional Security Assessment (APRSA), dated May 28, which examines evolving security dynamics in the region ahead of the upcoming defence dialogue in Singapore.
