India-UK FTA more than just about trade: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri

Business To Business, Paris, 19th June, 2026:   India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has said that the India-UK trade agreement extends beyond commerce and technology, creating new opportunities for people in both countries.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Misri identified trade, technology, and regional and international security as the key themes of discussions held by Narendra Modi during meetings on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian.
During a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the two leaders announced that the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) will come into force on July 15.
Misri described the development as a significant milestone in bilateral relations, noting that the agreement—signed last year in the presence of both prime ministers in the United Kingdom—marks a major step forward in India's economic partnership with one of its key trading partners, the United Kingdom.
The agreement is expected to strengthen trade and investment ties, improve market access, and deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, further enhancing the strategic partnership between India and the UK.
