Mediators see progress in efforts to halt Iran war as drone attacks rattle region

Business To Business, Dubai, 28^th July, 2026:   Regional mediators have reported progress in efforts to bring the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table after both sides paused direct attacks following weeks of escalating tensions. However, fresh drone attacks by armed groups across the Middle East highlighted the fragility of the situation.
Saudi Arabia said it intercepted drones launched by Iran-backed militias in Iraq that were targeting petroleum facilities in the kingdom. Meanwhile, the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for attacks on Saudi oil installations as part of a separate but related conflict, though it was not immediately clear whether they were referring to the same incident.
Elsewhere in the region, two drone attacks were reported against a Kurdish Iranian dissident group in Iraq. Jordan also said its air defences shot down two drones, but authorities did not disclose their origin.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage from any of the incidents.
The latest attacks underscore the persistent security challenges facing the region even as diplomatic efforts continue to revive negotiations between Washington and Tehran and prevent a broader conflict.
