Nepal’s Foreign Minister Khanal likely to travel to China on Sunday

Business To Business, Kathmandu, 11th June, 2026:    Shisir Khanal is expected to travel to China on Sunday for a four-day visit aimed at further strengthening relations between the two neighboring countries.
According to sources in Nepal's Foreign Ministry, the visit is scheduled from June 14 to June 17.
Expected Meetings
During the trip, Khanal is likely to hold talks with:

  • Wang Yi
  • Liu Haixing, chief of the International Department of the Communist Party of China
The meetings are expected to focus on enhancing political, economic, and developmental cooperation.
Key Issues on the Agenda
Discussions are likely to cover:
  • Bilateral relations
  • Trade and investment
  • Cross-border connectivity
  • Infrastructure development
  • Regional cooperation
Connectivity projects have become a major component of Nepal-China engagement in recent years, particularly in areas involving transport links, border infrastructure, and economic cooperation.
Strategic Importance
As a landlocked country situated between India and China, Nepal places significant emphasis on maintaining strong relations with both neighbors.
China is one of Nepal's largest development and infrastructure partners, while trade, tourism, and connectivity remain central themes in bilateral engagement.
Diplomatic Context
The proposed visit comes amid continued efforts by Kathmandu and Beijing to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors. Analysts view such high-level exchanges as important mechanisms for reviewing ongoing projects, addressing implementation challenges, and exploring new avenues for economic and infrastructure collaboration.
If the visit proceeds as scheduled, it will provide an opportunity for both sides to assess the current state of relations and chart future cooperation priorities.
