Nepal’s Supreme Court refuses interim relief to former PM Oli as protests continue over his arrest

Business To Business, Kathmandu, 31 March 2026: The Supreme Court of Nepal on Monday declined to grant interim relief to former Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, who was arrested in connection with the crackdown on the 2025 Gen Z movement, even as protests continued across Nepal over his detention.
Oli, along with former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, was arrested on Saturday for alleged involvement in suppressing the Gen Z movement protests held on September 8 and 9 last year, during which 76 people were reportedly killed.
Hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Oli’s wife, Radhika Shakya, a single bench of Justice Meghraj Pokharel refused to issue an interim order for his release, stating that no immediate relief was warranted at this stage.
