Business To Business, New York, 28th July, 2026: The United States has introduced a new rule that will allow certain asylum seekers to be referred directly to immigration courts without first undergoing interviews with officials from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
The rule, which takes effect on Tuesday, is intended to speed up the processing of the 1.4 million pending asylum applications before the USCIS by reducing administrative delays.
Announcing the measure, USCIS Director Joseph Edlow said the change is designed to ensure that the asylum system remains focused on individuals with genuine protection needs.
“America’s asylum system exists to protect individuals who genuinely fear persecution and this rule will help ensure that resources are directed to the timely adjudication of those claims instead of to those seeking to use the system as a loophole,” Edlow said in a statement on Monday.
The new policy is part of the US government's efforts to address the large backlog of asylum cases while streamlining the adjudication process for eligible applicants.
