Business To Business, Islamabad, 19th June, 2026: Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take note of what Islamabad describes as India's violations of the Indus Waters Treaty.
The treaty, brokered by the World Bank in 1960, regulates the sharing and use of the Indus River system and its tributaries between India and Pakistan. It was suspended following the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
According to Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, a letter from Dar was delivered to the current UNSC president, Leonor Zalabata Torres, outlining Pakistan's concerns regarding the status of the treaty and seeking the Council's attention to the matter.
