Pak PM Shehbaz says final text of US-Iran peace deal agreed upon
Business To Business, Islamabad, 13th June, 2026: Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the United States and Iran have agreed on the final text of a peace deal and that Pakistan is working with both sides to finalize the next steps. He made the announcement in a post on X, describing Pakistan's role as part of ongoing mediation efforts.
Sharif said:
"A final, agreed upon text of the peace deal has been reached and Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps."
- Pakistan says negotiations have reached the stage of an agreed text.
- Islamabad claims it has been actively mediating between Washington and Tehran for months.
- The announcement has raised hopes of easing tensions in the Gulf region, particularly around maritime security and energy supplies.
While Sharif has publicly declared that a final text exists, reports indicate that officials in Washington and Tehran have not yet provided a full public confirmation of all details. Some reporting suggests there are still differing interpretations of key provisions and that the agreement has not yet entered the formal implementation stage.
A successful US–Iran agreement could have major implications for:
- Stability in the Strait of Hormuz.
- Global oil and energy markets.
- Regional security in West Asia.
- International efforts to address concerns surrounding Iran's nuclear programme.
At this stage, Sharif's announcement is being viewed as a significant diplomatic development, but observers are awaiting formal confirmation and details from both the US and Iranian governments before concluding that a final settlement has been secured.
