Pakistan's role as mediator problematic: US senator

Business To Business, New York, 27th May, 2026:  Lindsey Graham has described Pakistan’s role as a mediator in the United States’ conflict involving Iran as “problematic,” amid broader geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Graham’s remarks came after Khwaja Asif reiterated Islamabad’s position on relations with Israel and the broader Middle East peace process.
Asif said he does not support Pakistan joining the Abraham Accords, the diplomatic framework aimed at establishing political, economic, and security ties between Israel and several Arab nations.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s long-standing stance that it would not recognise Israel until:

  • A Palestinian state is established
  • The state is based on pre-1967 borders
  • East Jerusalem serves as the capital of a future Palestinian state
The comments highlight continuing divisions in international diplomacy over:
  • The Israel-Palestine conflict
  • Regional alignments in West Asia
  • Pakistan’s foreign policy posture
  • The evolving role of the Abraham Accords in Middle Eastern geopolitics
Pakistan has historically supported the Palestinian cause and has not established formal diplomatic relations with Israel.
