Business Aajkal, Islamabad, 07 May 2025: In response to India's recent missile strikes under "Operation Sindoor," Pakistan's National Security Council (NSC) convened on May 7, 2025, and authorized the country's armed forces to undertake retaliation "at a time, place, and manner of its choosing." This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which included cabinet ministers, chief ministers, all services chiefs, and senior officers.
Pakistan condemned the Indian strikes as an "act of war," asserting that the attacks targeted civilian areas, including mosques, resulting in at least 26 civilian deaths and over 46 injuries. In retaliation, Pakistan claimed to have shot down five Indian fighter jets and a drone, and conducted artillery attacks across the Line of Control, leading to additional civilian casualties on both sides.
The situation has drawn international concern, with the United Nations, United States, China, and other global powers urging both nations to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to prevent further escalation.
