Business Aajkal, SINGAPORE, 14 May 2025: On Wednesday, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong officially broke ground for a new terminal at Changi Airport, marking a significant milestone in the airport’s expansion plans. The development aims to transform Singapore into a leading global travel hub with connections to over 200 cities by the 2030s.
The expansion project is expected to cost “tens of billions of dollars” and will take more than a decade to complete. The first phase is scheduled to open in the mid-2030s as part of the 1,080-hectare Changi East development.
To support this growth, the Changi Airport Development Fund was established in 2015 to finance airport expansion efforts, including the construction of Terminal 5 (T5). According to The Straits Times, the Singapore government has already contributed SGD 11 billion into the fund to date.
