Kolkata, New Delhi, INDIA. New York, USA.
Business To Business, Glasgow, 01th August, 2026: National record holder Tejaswin Shankar scripted history on Friday by becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games, claiming the bronze medal despite battling a long-standing knee injury.
The 26-year-old amassed 7,976 points across the gruelling 10-event discipline, which is contested over two days, to secure a place on the podium.
Tejaswin competed while managing chronic patellar tendinitis, commonly known as jumper's knee, an injury that had earlier forced him to withdraw from the men's high jump event at the Glasgow Games.
The athlete had been left visibly emotional after the injury flared up during his opening attempt in the high jump, compelling him to pull out of the event.
Despite the setback, Tejaswin displayed remarkable resilience to return and produce a historic performance in the decathlon, earning India's first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in the discipline.
