Business To Business, Dubai, 01th August, 2026: US President Donald Trump has announced that Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza have agreed to disarm, describing the development as a "critical step" toward achieving lasting peace and security in the territory.
According to Trump, the proposed disarmament would pave the way for a Palestinian committee to assume governance in Gaza, while facilitating the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, as outlined in his 20-point peace plan. Trump said both Israel and Hamas had agreed to the framework in October last year.
Hamas officials confirmed that they had agreed to the disarmament process. However, a member of the group's negotiating team said the move remains contingent on Israel completing a full withdrawal from Gaza.
The announcement marks a significant development in ongoing efforts to secure a lasting settlement in Gaza, though key issues surrounding implementation and the sequencing of disarmament and military withdrawal remain to be resolved.
