Business Aajkal, New Delhi, 05 May 2025: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is set to hold closed-door consultations on Monday, May 5, to discuss the escalating situation between India and Pakistan following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting was scheduled after Pakistan, currently a non-permanent member of the 15-member body, formally requested an emergency session.
The Greek Presidency of the Council for the month of May agreed to the request, arranging the private session to allow members to assess the developments and consider possible diplomatic steps. While such closed consultations do not typically result in formal resolutions, they offer a platform for member states to express concerns, propose de-escalation measures, and underscore the need for restraint.
This move marks a significant diplomatic escalation by Islamabad, signaling that it wants to internationalize the issue and frame it within the context of regional peace and security—something India has historically resisted, preferring bilateral channels.
