US introduces fixed-term for student, exchange visas

Business To Business, New York, 17th July, 2026:   The United States on Thursday tightened visa rules for foreign students, exchange visitors and journalists by ending the previous system that allowed them to remain in the country for an indefinite period without fixed government oversight.
Under the new regulation, non-immigrant visa holders in the F, J and I categories will be admitted for a fixed period, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement.
The F category covers students, the J category applies to exchange visitors, and the I category is designated for journalists.
