US pauses attacks on Iran for second straight day and Tehran does too

Business To Business, Dubai, 27^th July, 2026:    The United States and Iran paused military strikes against each other for a second consecutive day on Sunday, raising cautious hopes that diplomatic efforts to revive negotiations on an interim ceasefire could gain momentum after nearly two weeks of escalating hostilities.
Tehran said it had also halted its attacks, while the reason behind Washington's pause remained unclear. The recent escalation began after Iran targeted vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, prompting US strikes on Iranian coastal areas and infrastructure.
The Pentagon did not immediately respond to questions regarding the pause in military operations.
US President Donald Trump is allowing diplomatic efforts time to progress, according to Mike Waltz, the US ambassador to the United Nations.
"He's giving talks some space. He's giving it a little bit of room," Waltz told Fox News. He added that negotiators from the US, Iran and Oman, along with other parties, have remained engaged at multiple levels in recent weeks, with discussions intensifying over the past few days.
Despite the temporary halt in hostilities, uncertainty remains over whether the pause will lead to a durable ceasefire or a broader diplomatic breakthrough, as negotiations continue amid heightened regional tensions.
