Kolkata, New Delhi, INDIA. New York, USA.
Business To Business, New York, 22nd July, 2026: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a phased tariff regime on imported generic medicines, saying the measure is intended to encourage the domestic manufacturing of pharmaceutical products in the United States.
The move could have significant implications for India, the largest exporter of generic medicines to the US market.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said imported generic drugs would continue to attract a zero per cent tariff until August 1, 2028. Thereafter, the tariff would increase to 100 per cent for one year and rise to 200 per cent subsequently, as part of the administration's push to onshore pharmaceutical manufacturing.
