Wildfires: why disposable BBQs are being banned from some parks and beaches

Business To Business, London, 01th August, 2026:   Disposable barbecues are coming under increased scrutiny in the United Kingdom as soaring temperatures and heightened wildfire risks prompt several local authorities to restrict their use in public spaces.
The UK is experiencing what some fire scientists describe as a "firewave"—a period in which prolonged heatwaves create conditions that significantly increase the likelihood of wildfires, including in urban areas.
The lightweight, single-use barbecues, a common feature of British summer outings, have been identified as a potential fire hazard when used on dry grass and other highly combustible surfaces.
In response, a number of local councils have banned disposable barbecues in council-owned parks, beaches and other public spaces to reduce the risk of accidental fires.
The restrictions are part of broader efforts by local authorities to protect public spaces and minimise the threat of wildfires during periods of extreme heat, with officials urging residents to adopt safer alternatives when cooking outdoors.
