Yemen's Houthis attack Saudi tankers in Red Sea, threatening to widen Iran war

Business To Business, Dubai, 24th July, 2026:   Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Thursday claimed responsibility for attacks on two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, raising concerns of a wider regional conflict and adding to volatility in global energy markets, with international oil prices climbing above USD 100 a barrel.
The claimed attacks come as the Houthis have threatened to disrupt another major global trade route, while the world economy continues to grapple with Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran and the United States have also intensified military actions as they compete for control of the strategic waterway, through which roughly one-fifth of the world's oil and gas shipments passed during peacetime. The disruption has prompted efforts to identify alternative shipping routes.
The latest developments coincided with a 12th consecutive night of US strikes across Iran. US President Donald Trump warned of "major military punishment" against the Houthis if they continue attacking commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
The escalating tensions have heightened concerns over the security of global energy supplies and maritime trade in the Middle East.
