'Wish there were daughters also among medallists': PM Modi at IIT Delhi convocation

Business To Business, New Delhi, 08 August, 2026:   Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called for greater participation of women in academic excellence, saying he wished more female students had been among the medal and award winners at the 57th Convocation of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi).
Addressing graduating students, Modi congratulated those receiving medals and awards for their achievements and said the occasion was about more than simply receiving a degree, as graduates were leaving the institute with ambitions to contribute to the country.
Modi's message on women in academics
Reflecting on the awardees, Modi said it would have been better to see more women among the medal and award recipients.
He initially referred to "one or two daughters" being present among the awardees, before stressing that there should be many more women achieving such academic distinctions.
His remarks underscored the importance of increasing female participation and representation in higher education and academic achievement, particularly in India's premier technical institutions.
