1 dead, more than 20 injured in fire at naphtha pipeline in West Bengal's Haldia

Business To Business, Kolkata, 30th June, 2026:  One person was killed and more than 20 others were injured after a major fire broke out in a naphtha-carrying pipeline owned by Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.
The blaze continued to burn in a small section of the pipeline even after 15 hours. A 38-year-old woman succumbed to her burn injuries at a hospital in Kolkata, taking the death toll to one, according to police.
Four other injured persons remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at hospitals in the city, while 16 others are receiving medical care at various healthcare facilities in Purba Medinipur district, an officer said.
Authorities are continuing efforts to bring the fire under control and are monitoring the situation, while the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
