3 'Bangladeshi infiltrators' lodged in 'holding centre' in Bengal's Murshidabad

Business To Business, Kolkata, 26th May, 2026:  Three suspected Bangladeshi nationals have been lodged at a newly created “holding centre” in Murshidabad district, officials said on Tuesday.
According to police, the facility at Lalgola has now become operational, with three individuals currently housed there under tight security.
This development comes shortly after Malda district became the first district in West Bengal to set up a similar “holding centre,” where nine suspected Bangladeshi nationals have already been accommodated.
Officials said these centres have been created to house individuals identified as:

  • Suspected illegal foreign nationals
  • Persons pending verification or deportation procedures
  • Cases under immigration and security review
The initiative reflects ongoing administrative efforts in border districts of India to manage cross-border movement and enforce immigration regulations, particularly in areas close to the international boundary with Bangladesh.
Security around these facilities has been tightened, and verification procedures are continuing.
