Ahmedabad plane crash: On BJMC anniv day, sombre mood on campus coping with grief

Business Aajkal, Ahmedabad, 16 June 2025: A year ago, BJ Medical College and Hospital celebrated its foundation day with joy and pride. This Monday, however, the atmosphere was one of devastation and despair. Families gathered in anguish, waiting anxiously for DNA testing to identify their loved ones killed when an Air India plane crashed into the hospital complex. Medics, having lost colleagues in the tragedy, continued their work with stoic resilience amid the ruins of what was once a bustling medical institution.

This 146th foundation day will always be remembered for its stark contrast—a day marked by profound sorrow. BJMC, one of India's oldest medical colleges, has become a scene of grief following the June 12 crash that claimed 241 lives onboard and 29 on the ground, including five MBBS students.

As families faced the agonizing wait for identification, their faces etched with grief and anxiety, the surroundings reflected their emotional turmoil, embodying the somber reality of this tragic anniversary.
