AI-enabled cyber attacks emerge as most important near-term challenge: RBI

Business To Business, New Delhi, 01st July, 2026:   Artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled cyberattacks have emerged as the most significant near-term cyber threat facing the Indian banking system, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Tuesday.
The observation was made in the RBI's latest assessment of cyber resilience, which included a survey of financial institutions to evaluate their preparedness against evolving cyber risks.
According to the central bank, the survey found that banks and other financial institutions have established robust cyber risk management practices, particularly in areas such as vulnerability assessment and penetration testing of critical information systems.
"AI-enabled cyber attacks emerged as the most important near-term challenge," the RBI said, noting the growing sophistication of cyber threats amid heightened discussions around the capabilities of advanced artificial intelligence systems such as Mythos.
The findings underscore the increasing importance of strengthening cybersecurity frameworks as financial institutions adapt to the rapidly evolving threat landscape driven by advances in artificial intelligence.
