Business To Business, Kolkata, 08th July, 2026: The firearms used by police personnel during the encounter in which one of the prime accused in the Baruipur rape and murder case was killed will be sent for forensic examination as part of a detailed investigation into the incident, a police officer said on Wednesday.
According to the officer, investigators will also record the statements of all police personnel involved in the operation and cross-check their accounts to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the encounter.
As part of the inquiry, the investigating team will visit the encounter site in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district to collect physical evidence and document the scene.
Officials said forensic experts will examine the weapons used during the operation, while investigators will determine crucial aspects of the incident, including the distance between the accused, Prabhas Mondal, and the police officer who fired the fatal shots.
The evidence gathered from the scene, along with forensic findings and witness statements, will be analysed to establish the circumstances surrounding the encounter and verify whether standard operating procedures were followed.
The investigation forms part of the mandatory process undertaken following a police encounter, with authorities seeking to ensure an objective examination of the incident through forensic analysis, evidence collection and scrutiny of the officers' statements.
