Bengal govt seeks vacancy reports from all departments to fast-track hirings

Business To Business, Kolkata, 23rd May, 2026:  The West Bengal government has asked all administrative departments to submit detailed reports on vacant posts by June 3 as part of a fresh drive to accelerate recruitment and strengthen governance.
According to a communication issued by the state Finance (Audit) Department, the exercise is intended to improve “efficient service delivery” and address a large number of vacancies that have remained unfilled for a long period.
The order stated that the government has decided to begin the process of filling vacant posts across departments in order to strengthen the administrative machinery.
The move is expected to help the state:

  • Assess staffing shortages across departments
  • Streamline recruitment planning
  • Improve delivery of public services
  • Address long-pending vacancies in government offices
The initiative comes amid continued focus on administrative efficiency and public sector workforce management in West Bengal.
