Bengal to get new power tariff order by July: Khattar

Business To Business, Kolkata, 30th May, 2026:  Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said that a new electricity tariff order for West Bengal is expected to be issued by the state's Electricity Regulatory Commission by the end of July.
Speaking to reporters after a review meeting of the state's Power and Urban Development departments, Khattar said the tariff proposal that was due to be submitted by March 31 had not been filed by the previous All India Trinamool Congress government.
According to the minister, the revised tariff proposal will be submitted to the Electricity Regulatory Commission within the next month. He added that the commission is expected to pass the new tariff order within a month after receiving the proposal.
"The new tariff proposal will be submitted to the Electricity Regulatory Commission within the next month, and the revised tariff order is expected to be passed within a month thereafter," Khattar said.
The announcement came after discussions with state officials on issues relating to the power sector. Electricity tariff orders determine the rates charged to different categories of consumers and are typically issued by the regulatory commission after examining utilities' cost and revenue requirements.
If the proposed timeline is followed, consumers and power utilities in West Bengal could see a revised tariff framework come into effect after the commission completes its review process.
