Bihar govt announces higher compensation to land owners for various public welfare projects

Business To Business, Patna, 27th May, 2026: The government of Bihar on Wednesday approved a major revision in land acquisition compensation rules, increasing payouts for private landowners whose land is acquired for public welfare projects.
The decision was taken in a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, based on a proposal from the Revenue and Land Reforms Department.
Under the new policy, compensation in urban areas will be twice the market value or circle rate (whichever is higher). In rural areas, compensation will be four times the market value or circle rate (whichever is higher).
The move is aimed at making land acquisition more equitable and reducing disputes by offering significantly higher compensation benchmarks for both rural and urban landowners involved in infrastructure and development projects.
