BJP targets Sonia Gandhi over 'selective silence' on demolition of gurdwara in Pakistan

Business To Business, New Delhi, 02nd July, 2026:   The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi of maintaining "selective silence" over the demolition of a 125-year-old gurdwara in Pakistan, alleging that the opposition party raises its voice selectively on issues related to human rights and the persecution of minorities.
The BJP's remarks came a day after India strongly condemned the demolition of the historic Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Pakistan's Punjab province, describing the incident as "highly deplorable" and urging the Pakistani authorities to investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice.
Addressing a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla alleged that Gandhi and other self-proclaimed champions of human rights had chosen to remain silent on the plight of religious minorities in Pakistan.
The Congress has not issued an official response to the BJP's allegations.
