CBI arrests EPFO officer in bribery case

Business To Business, New Delhi, 23rd July, 2026:   The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Enforcement Officer of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) posted at its Partiala District Office after allegedly catching him accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh, officials said on Thursday.
According to the CBI, an FIR was registered on Wednesday based on allegations that the officer had demanded a bribe of Rs 4 lakh while threatening to submit an adverse report recommending a heavy assessment and penalty against the complainant's client.
In a statement, the agency said, "The CBI laid a trap on July 22 and caught the accused while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from the complainant. The accused was arrested on Wednesday and produced before the competent court in Chandigarh."
