Chouhan to officials: Grievance redressal must show on the ground, not just in files

Business To Business, New Delhi, 22nd May, 2026:   Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, on Friday directed officials to revamp grievance redressal mechanisms in both ministries, stressing that complaints should not merely be marked as “disposed” on paper without actual relief reaching beneficiaries.
Chairing a review meeting a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued governance-related directives during the Union Cabinet meeting, Chouhan said dedicated teams comprising at least 10 officers each would be created in the agriculture and rural development ministries.
According to an official statement, these teams will review public grievances, citizen letters, complaints received through various portals, and other issues on a daily basis.
“Governance must be visible in people's lives, not confined to files,” Chouhan said, adding that farmers, poor citizens, and rural residents should not have to “run from pillar to post” to obtain benefits or seek grievance redressal.
The minister’s remarks underline the government’s focus on improving administrative accountability and ensuring that welfare schemes and public services are effectively delivered at the grassroots level.
