CIL arm BCCL begins commercial operation at coal washery in West Bengal

Business To Business, Kolkata, 27th May, 2026:  Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, on Wednesday announced the commencement of commercial operations at its 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Bhojudih coking coal washery in West Bengal.
The Bhojudih washery is expected to enhance the supply of washed coking coal to India’s steel industry. Coking coal is an essential raw material used in the production of steel.
The commissioning of the facility is significant because India continues to depend heavily on imported coking coal to meet domestic demand, leading to substantial foreign exchange expenditure. The new washery is aimed at improving the availability and quality of indigenous coking coal and reducing import dependence over time.
