Business To Business, New Delhi, 26th July, 2026: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday amid mounting pressure over the NEET paper leak controversy, with the Centre conceding a key demand of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led agitation after weeks of nationwide protests.
In a statement announcing his resignation, Pradhan said the developments of the past 10 days had "saddened" him deeply and stressed that the issue was "not a matter of personal prestige."
He said his decision was guided by the larger national interest, adding that he did not want "anti-national forces" to exploit the situation.
Pradhan further said he wanted to ensure that "the unity of the nation remains intact," that "the future of even a single student should not become entangled in legal complications," and that students remain focused on their studies and careers.
His resignation comes after sustained protests in the national capital and several other parts of the country over the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the NEET examination, with demonstrators demanding accountability and reforms in the examination system.
