EAM Jaishankar meets Myanmar President Aung Hlaing
Business To Business, New Delhi, 30th May, 2026: S. Jaishankar on Saturday met Min Aung Hlaing and discussed key aspects of the India-Myanmar partnership, including connectivity, trade, and broader bilateral cooperation.
Min Aung Hlaing arrived in India on a five-day visit, beginning his trip with a visit to the Mahabodhi Temple in Gaya before travelling to New Delhi.
The visit is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in areas such as:
- Defence and security collaboration.
- Trade and economic ties.
- Border management and security.
- Connectivity and infrastructure projects.
- Regional cooperation and development.
Myanmar occupies a significant place in India's neighbourhood policy and acts as a crucial land bridge between India and Southeast Asia. The two countries share a 1,640-kilometre border that runs through several northeastern Indian states, including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Given the shared border and regional security concerns, cooperation on border security, insurgency-related issues, trade facilitation, and connectivity projects remains an important component of bilateral relations. The visit is also expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to review ongoing projects and explore ways to deepen strategic and economic engagement.
