Four Bangladeshis held for illegally entering Meghalaya

Business Aajkal, Shillong, 07 May 2025: The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals in Meghalaya's South West Garo Hills district for illegally entering India without valid documentation. The individuals were arrested near the international border after the BSF detected suspicious movements during the night. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects hailed from Mymensingh, Gazipur, and Nagaon districts in Bangladesh. They reportedly crossed into India in search of employment opportunities. Following their arrest, the BSF handed them over to the local police for further legal action.
Meghalaya shares a 443-kilometer border with Bangladesh, of which approximately 49 kilometers remain unfenced, presenting challenges for border security. The BSF has intensified vigilance along this stretch to prevent unauthorized crossings and related illegal activities.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of illegal immigration from Bangladesh into India, particularly in border areas like South West Garo Hills. Local authorities and the BSF continue to collaborate closely to monitor and secure the international border, ensuring national security and lawful immigration practices.
