Gulmarg gondola malfunction: Amit Shah lauds response forces for rescuing tourists

Business To Business, New Delhi, 25th May, 2026:   Amit Shah on Monday praised India’s disaster response agencies for rescuing more than 300 tourists stranded in cable cars after a gondola malfunction in Gulmarg.
In a post on X, Shah commended the coordinated rescue effort that safely evacuated passengers who had remained suspended mid-air for several hours.
According to him, the operation involved personnel from:

  • State Disaster Response Force
  • National Disaster Response Force
  • Indian Army
  • Local police
  • Civil administration
The rescue mission reportedly lasted around six hours and successfully evacuated all passengers stranded in 65 cable cars.
Gulmarg is one of India’s most prominent hill and skiing destinations and attracts large numbers of tourists throughout the year. The incident highlighted both the risks associated with high-altitude tourism infrastructure and the importance of coordinated emergency response systems.
