Haryana unveils ambitious Yamuna revival plan with 18 new STPs

Business To Business, New Delhi, 30^th July, 2026:   The Haryana government has unveiled an ambitious Yamuna rejuvenation plan that includes the construction of 18 new sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a combined treatment capacity of 621 million litres per day (MLD), along with 12 industrial effluent treatment projects and the restoration of identified ponds along the river corridor.
Reviewing the implementation roadmap on Thursday, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi directed all concerned departments to expedite projects aimed at strengthening wastewater treatment, industrial pollution control, and solid waste management.
The plan also provides for technology upgrades at six existing STPs to improve treatment efficiency.
In addition, the state will establish Integrated Solid Waste Management clusters across all 33 urban local bodies in the Yamuna catchment area. The initiative also includes the setting up of six biogas plants for processing dairy waste.
As part of efforts to revive local water bodies, the government plans to restore 61 identified ponds and water bodies, of which 11 have already been rejuvenated.
The comprehensive programme is aimed at improving the ecological health of the Yamuna by reducing pollution, enhancing wastewater management, and promoting sustainable environmental practices across the river basin in Haryana.
