India-Pakistan Asia Cup cricket match: Oppn parties slam BJP, BCCI for playing with the 'enemy'

Business To Business, Mumbai, 12 September 2025: On Friday, opposition parties in Maharashtra vehemently criticized both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the forthcoming India-Pakistan Asia Cup cricket fixture scheduled for September 14. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray questioned whether "blood and cricket can truly coexist," implying a contentious juxtaposition of sport and national sentiment.

The Maharashtra Congress denounced the match as an affront to the families of those slain in the Pahalgam terror attack and to soldiers who have laid down their lives in service.

Meanwhile, the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) (SP) asserted that the government's inconsistent standards had been laid bare by its decision to permit the match to proceed.
