Business To Business, New Delhi, 14th June, 2026: Rajnath Singh on Sunday asserted that India is committed to peace but possesses the capability to respond firmly and decisively to any threat to its national security.
Speaking at an event after unveiling a statue of Maharana Pratap, Singh said that while India prefers peace and stability, it will not hesitate to act against those who seek to disturb the country's security.
"We are people who want peace, but we also know how to permanently silence those who spread disturbance," the defence minister said.
Singh also criticized previous governments led by the Indian National Congress, alleging that terrorist incidents were more frequent before 2014 and that the political leadership of that period had adopted a relatively soft approach toward terrorism.
The defence minister contrasted that period with the current government's national security policies, arguing that a stronger stance has been taken against terrorism and security threats under the administration of Narendra Modi.
The remarks were made in the context of national security and India's defense preparedness, themes that have frequently featured in political debates between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition. Supporters of the government cite a more assertive security posture in recent years, while opposition parties have often challenged such claims and raised concerns about broader governance and security issues.
The event also paid tribute to Maharana Pratap, who is widely remembered for his resistance against the Mughal Empire and remains an important historical figure in Indian history.
