INS Trikand foils piracy attempt on foreign-flagged merchant ship in Gulf of Aden

Business To Business, New Delhi, 02nd July, 2026:   The Indian Navy's stealth frigate INS Trikand successfully thwarted a piracy attempt on a foreign-flagged merchant vessel in the Gulf of Aden, ensuring the safety of all 21 crew members on board, including one Indian national, officials said on Thursday.
According to an Indian Navy spokesperson, the piracy incident was reported through coordination with the Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), headquartered in Gurugram.
The vessel, MV Golden Arsenal, a bulk carrier sailing under the flag of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, reported an attempted pirate attack on July 1 while operating approximately 300 nautical miles east-northeast of Djibouti.
The Indian Navy responded promptly to the distress call, with INS Trikand intervening to deter the suspected pirates and ensure the safe passage of the merchant vessel, reaffirming India's commitment to safeguarding maritime security and freedom of navigation in the region.
