J&K: Authorities ban trekking, camping in higher reaches of Kokernag citing security concerns

Business To Business, Srinagar, 02 January, 2026: The authorities in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir enforced a prohibition on trekking, hiking, camping, and other similar outdoor pursuits in the high-altitude and forest regions of Kokernag due to "security concerns".

This decision was made following reports from police and security agencies indicating an increase in threats in specific high-altitude and forested areas within the jurisdiction of the Kokernag sub-division.

The order, issued by Sub-divisional Magistrate Prince Kumar, stated, "In recent incidents, certain individuals attempted to bypass police checkpoints during late-night hours, thus raising significant concerns regarding public safety."
