Business To Business, New Delhi, 27th June, 2026: The Jharkhand government has established contact with 34 migrant workers stranded in Kannigaipair village in Tiruvallur district following an ammonia gas leak at the seafood export company where they were employed and is arranging for their safe return to their home districts, an official said on Saturday.
Shikha Lakra, team leader of the state's Migrant Control Cell, said the action was initiated on the directions of Hemant Soren after the workers appealed through a video to be brought back to Jharkhand following the incident.
According to Lakra, a total of 36 migrant workers from various districts of Jharkhand were employed at the seafood export company in Tiruvallur district.
She said one worker, identified as Priti Devi (29) from Dhanbad, died in the ammonia gas leak, while another worker, Kodama Pira, is undergoing medical treatment.
"We are arranging for the return of the remaining 34 workers through the railway to their respective districts," Lakra said.
The state government said it is coordinating with the authorities concerned to facilitate the workers' safe travel and provide necessary assistance following the industrial accident.
