Business To Business, New Delhi, 11 August 2026: More than 2 lakh villages and over 1 lakh gram panchayats across India have achieved Har Ghar Jal certification, the Jal Shakti Ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry stressed that the milestone must now translate into sustainable, community-led management of rural drinking-water systems, rather than merely expanding infrastructure.
Focus on Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0
The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) held the 11th District Collectors' Peyjal Samvad through videoconferencing to discuss the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 and share successful practices adopted by various districts.
The meeting was chaired by DDWS Secretary Ashok K K Meena and attended by Kamal Kishore Soan, Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the National Jal Jeevan Mission, along with senior officials from the department and state water and sanitation missions.
The ministry said the next phase of the programme will place greater emphasis on long-term functionality, community participation and effective management of rural water-supply systems.
