Mathura residents seek inquiry into land purchases with Bankey Bihari temple funds

Business To Business, New Delhi, 04th July, 2026:  Local residents on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Goswami members of the Supreme Court-appointed high-powered committee overseeing the functioning of the Shri Bankey Bihari Temple, demanding an independent, impartial and time-bound inquiry into the purchase of land using temple funds for proposed development projects.
The memorandum sought an investigation into alleged irregularities, including disparities in property valuations, significant differences in per-square-metre rates for different portions of the same original property, discrepancies in records relating to road width, complaints regarding certain land parcels, the purchase of disputed properties and the alleged failure to provide relevant records to members of the Goswami community.
A Goswami member of the Supreme Court-constituted Shri Bankey Bihari Temple High-Powered Committee told reporters that the allegations of financial irregularities appeared to have merit and maintained that a thorough investigation should be conducted to ascertain the facts.
The demand for an inquiry comes amid growing concerns over the use of temple funds and the transparency of land acquisitions undertaken for the proposed redevelopment of the temple area.
