Business Aajkal, NEW DELHI, 14 May 2025: Historian Swapna Liddle has called upon the media to change its approach towards heritage coverage, urging it to move away from focusing solely on "heritage in danger" stories and instead highlight the untapped potential of lesser-known heritage sites in Old Delhi.
During her speech on the topic "Lesser Known Heritage: The Role of Media" at the India International Centre (IIC) on Tuesday, Liddle expressed concern over the ongoing demolition of historic buildings in Old Delhi. She pointed out that out of approximately 700 listed heritage structures in Shahjahanabad, many are either being demolished or deteriorating, largely because the public tends to be more interested in visually appealing and "pretty" sites rather than those with historical significance. She emphasized the importance of media in promoting awareness about these overlooked sites and their cultural value.
